The Ultimate combination of Art with Luxury
Morocco, usually known for its souks and mystical tendencies, however the lesser discovered destination of Tangier in Northern Morocco is known to be a city of a thousand and one colours bordered by the Mediterranean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Strait of Gibraltar, a real crossroads infused with the Arab-Andalusian and Spanish culture. Getting There: Air Arabia normally flies to Tangier three times a week with a reasonable price range and an excellent service. I would say it is somewhere in between Ryan Air and Emirates, but definitely value for money. Where to stay: The newly opened Hilton Al Houara resort in Tangier, which is located on the beach and you cant go wrong with this beautiful resort located away from Tangier airport. The hotel offers beautiful ocean view rooms with a 4 km unspoiled beach. There are also plenty of activities to pursue with an infinity edge heated pool, kids pool, gift shop , golf facilities and driving range. You can dine and relax in a number of magnificent settings ranging from The Argan Buffet restaurant to The Toucan being a more casual scene and The L’Olivier that is more for the fine dining customer. The hotel offers luxurious facilities such as beach yoga and horse riding that takes place just a few minutes at the rear of the resort. The horses are of a royal breed too and trained really well aswell as indulging in other activities such as dolphin watching - Scuba diving or snorkeling in Mediterranean sea or a Quad experience in the reef and trekking. The resort is situated in a quiet secluded setting so you can also enjoy some quiet time yet you can also head into the main centre to enjoy the hustle and bustle when needed. Tetouan and Chefchaouen Are well known as The Blue Pearls of Tangier and are also popular Unesco visiting sites well worth a visit. So why is it called the Blue city/? Well, originally the residents of the village decided to repel mosquitos with the blue colour and since then the travellers have kept the tradition alive by painting the town blue. Chefchaouen, a small village perched at an altitude of 600m and surrounded by its cork and fir forest offers a folklore that you will not forget. Chefchaouen advocates between the hills, a bluish beauty almost unreal that will shine your eyes as the city knows how to sparkle by its history. Vaults, small alleys, colourful carpets on the walls and majestic doors, and without forgetting the source of the city that criss-crosses the valleys, creating an unsuspected Eldorado with lush aspects as we like them. You can buy lots of leathers, souvenirs, crafts but my favourite was just the one unique shop, which sold lots of soaps, burning incense, minerals and organic beauty potions. Visiting the Artistic Kasbah in Asilah Originally a Portuguese enclave, Asilah is located just south of Tangier in northern Morocco. The picturesque town overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is a popular summer getaway for locals and visitors alike. The seaside town has many charms, including safe swimming beaches, quaint streets painted in soft shades of white and blue and excellent restaurants inspired by the town’s Spanish heritage. Many visitors travel to Asilah to explore its historic centre, or medina where cobbled streets, carved doors, crowded souks and bustling plazas offer authentic opportunities for shopping and socializing. The town of Asilah is now known as an artist’s Mecca with great street art only 30 minutes driving distance with the Kasbah city experience being like no other. You must end the day with a stop off to try a like-no-other Moroccan mint tea at “Las Chicas” a concept store created by international known Farida Beliazid – Movie- maker and Yasmine Durner-Hurel – Paris Haute Couture accessorized creator. The Sleepy fishing Town is must visit place to shop, whilst The Paradise Beach is the perfect destination for Art Lovers. It is an inspiring and authentic Moroccan city as you stroll through the streets of the medina, the Kasbah and finally admiring the vast opening of the Atlantic and a breathtaking view of the Strait of Gibraltar you will feel like a true “Tangérois”. Relaxation and Spa The Eforea spa located in the Hilton resort offers amazing relaxation facilities such as a sauna, Hammam, Jacuzzi and six treatment rooms, including a couple treatment room. The traditional hammam treatment consists of a black soap scrub, hair and body mask and massage. You will come out renewed and relaxed after trying this ritual, definitely a treat but a tip worth mentioning is try it at the end of your trip and outdoor adventures, preferably on the night before departure, if you are a couple or a group of friends, you will love this place because it has a completely different vibe to Marrrakech.
